Hippo is a bookmark app made by one person, Firmansyah Yanuar. This page says plainly what Hippo stores, where, and why.

Without an account

You can use Hippo without signing in. Your bookmarks then stay on your device and nothing is sent to our server, except when you ask Hippo to fetch a page's details or suggestions (see below).

With an account

When you sign in, Hippo keeps a copy of your library on its server so it can sync between your devices:

The server runs on a virtual private server we rent and operate. Data is sent over HTTPS. We do not sell your data, show ads, or use third-party analytics or tracking.

Fetching pages

To fill in a link's title, image and reader view, the Hippo server downloads the page you saved. The website sees a request from our server, not from your device.

AI suggestions

When you ask for suggestions, Hippo sends the link's address, title and description, together with the names of your collections, your tags and a few titles of links already in those collections, to Anthropic, which runs the Claude model that writes the suggestions. Anthropic processes this to answer the request and, under its commercial terms, does not use it to train its models. Nothing else from your library is sent.

Email

If you sign in with email, the one-time sign-in code is sent through Resend, an email delivery service. We use your email address only to sign you in and to answer you if you write to us.

Deleting your data

You can delete your account from the app's settings, which removes your account and everything synced with it from the server. You can also ask us to do it by writing to fyfirman@gmail.com; we will confirm once it is done.
